This is the Registration Page for the Cork Open MMA Championships, to be held in SBG Cork on August 20, 2016

Categories include:

  • teens (12-13, 14-15, 16-17) in various weight categories)
  • Adults (Age18-20 and 21+) - usual MMA weight classes
  • Females - same categories as the male competitors. Due to the history of small number of female entrants, it's likely weight classes will be merged to accomodate matchups. Please register all your details and in the event no match is found, a full refund will be given
  • There are 3 experience categories - Beginner, Intermediate and Advanced

Definition of Experience Levels:

  • Beginners: This category is for raw novices, with 5 fights or less (totalled between MMA, Kickboxing, Muay Thai and Boxing and less than Blue belt in BJJ or Judo).
  • Intermediate: This category is for those holding Blue Belt in either Judo or BJJ and/or with 6 fights or more (totalled between MMA, Kickboxing, Muay Thai and Boxing)
  • Advanced: Competitors in this division may have any number of fights completed up to and including amateur MMA. The no head shots on the ground rule will still apply.

Fees:

All competitor fees are the same at €25 per person. The cut off date for registration is 12th August. There will be no charge for spectators

Tournament Format:

The format of the tournament is double elimination (i.e. Each competitor must lose two matches to be out). There will be Gold, Silver and Bronze for each division. We will run the categories in order of age. Approximate times for the start of each division will be provided to allow competitors ample time to warm up

Weigh-ins:

Weights will be check on the day starting at 9am. There are no allowances on the weight divisions. After a 15 minute rules meeting at 10am, we will start the first fight at 10:15am

Round Duration:

  • All Beginner Divisions are 2 x 1.5min rounds. All Intermediate divisions are 2 x 2min rounds. Advanced division is 2 x 3min rounds. In the event of a draw, a 3rd round will be called for.
  • There will be a 45 second break between rounds

Decisions:

If a bout goes the distance, the referee will make a decision. If declared a draw, a 3rd round will be fought.

Equipment:

  • 7oz/8oz sparring MMA gloves (pro gloves not allowed)
  • Shin pads (with no metal clasps)
  • Headgear (either competition or sparring head gear is allowed. Just make sure it fits tightly) EDIT: Advance division won't wear headgear
  • Gum shields and groin guards

Illegal Techniques for all divisions include:

  • Can Openers or any other neck cranks
  • Heel Hooks, Knee Bars, Toe Holds
  • Oblique kicks (or any kicks that can potentially bend the knee in the wrong direction)
  • Elbows to any target
  • Upkicks to the head (upkicks to the body are ok)
  • Knees to the Head (all ages)
  • Knees to the body (unless you're age 18 or over)
  • Slamming out of submissions
  • Head butts, eye gouging, fish hooking, spinal attacks or strikes directly to joints

Allowed techniques include:

  • Strikes to the body and head while standing (except elbows, and except knees to the head for age 17 or below)
  • Strikes to the body only while grounded
  • All arm locks, should locks and chokes apart from heel hook, knee bar and toe hold.
